So basically actual farming is a big part of it right?

    I remember you playing Archage.

Jod: I got few days off, my girl is out of town, I've got a bottle of booze and I'm gonna go milk some chickens and shit.

This definitely looks like a game I want to get into but since I'm upgrading soon and with my current gaming desktop gone, I'll have to wait until that happens. Hopefully you guys are still playing when I finally pick it up.

I don't recall saying that, but that most certainly sounds like something I would say.

It really stood out for me because I couldn't understand how can someone get so excited about milking chickens while getting drunk.

So after playing the beta, definitely in.

We need to decide on some server to cause chaos in.

What makes this game stand out for you Kuat?

The reason I ask is because you seem to be pretty spot on with your reviews.

    Hum

    Hum hum.

    Okay!

    You asked for it.

BLACK DESERT ONLINE: WHERE SHIT GETS BLACK AND THERE'S A STALKER FOLLOWING YOU EVERYWHERE. ALSO THERE'S A DESERT. EVENTUALLY.

So where should I start with this thing? I can't quite describe it as a themepark mmo; there's reasons for me to go back right to the very beginning where you started. Or even stay there!

No, this is more of an exploration sandbox. Sure, there's limitations, but no fast travel in addition to a rather large breadth of things to possibly to do occupy your time makes it up for me.

So what's the big deal? Well, less downtime for starters. And by less downtime I mean a shitton less downtime than say.. ArcheAge.

For one, if I decide to go trading in ArcheAge, I need to pay 50 labour to make a pack, and another 50 to turn it in. Which, at the non-premium rate, is 5 labour every 5 minutes. So 100 minutes per pack. Got a trader ship? Yah. Didn't think so.
Also the sheer amount of stupidity which is land. aie.

Compared to BDO which is 1 energy every 3, or 2 every 3 if you use a bed. (Or 3 per 3 with a cash shop bed but I mean, I have too much energy anyways so w/e)

Incidentally, gathering and crafting uses generally 1 energy per.. Fishing uses zero unless you spend energy.

So I can go out in the world and actually do shit when I want to do shit. Rarely will I look at my energy and go "Oh dear I need to wait another 50 minutes/afk all night to get it back!!!!".

Now that being said, characters do not regain energy while offline. Not a big deal in my mind anyways, there's plenty that does not involve energy anyways.

Like hiring people to do shit for you. Well, okay, there's an initial investment cost of energy to hire new ones but they stay around after that forever. Unless you fire them.

I digress, that's just the production and crafting aspect of being able to do more.

Oh also? You can do trading without actually using energy. At all.
    AMAZING.
    ----------------

So I'm not even going to attempt to go into the complexities of the crafting system. Things require different things from all over it, and it needs some simplification somewhere. Got the mats for something? You're gonna get X, and maybe Y. There's no high quality or low quality difference which I appreciate because otherwise low quality is pretty much worthless.

Nah, I'm going to go into the more meaty part of it which is leveling and questing and pew da pew.

So you have eight classes, of which each and every one of them has different ways of making things fall down. That's great.

But this game isn't strictly a tab-targeting game. You have what I like to call a soft lock-on, you can flatly swing in the wrong direction, you can lose your lock.. Aiming is important. Not as blatantly important as a shooter like Planetside, but you can't be lollygagging 90 degrees off target.

And the speed of leveling is quite good. To get to 50? Reportedly that's under 24h of gameplay. I've heard talk of it being 17h or less.
50 isn't the cap by the way but it's an important step. 55 is the soft cap.

    --------------

Now, graphically this thing is impressive. I'm more impressed by the fact it runs rather smoothly for me. With a shitton of things on screen.
And there is a lot of attention to detail. Like ridiculous levels of attention to detail. Towns feel like places people can live in, instead of these random quest joints.
There's actually a lot of random activity, and random people giving life to towns just by virtue of walking around.

Heck, you can find a random dead whale some peeps have hunted and brought into town. Somewhere, anyways. ;)

    ---------------

I actually really enjoyed the trading aspect of the game. It was rather.. interesting. I mean, you can auto-run and thus you can walk between towns and sell stuff for monies, provided you've linked them to begin with.
It felt more rewarding than ArcheAge; for some reason I actually enjoyed myself more with running along with a donkey between a couple of towns selling stuff. And to be frank, I think I can chalk that up to the fact that it feels really immersive even while doing that.

There's a neat effect if you leave your game running, and that is the UI fades out, and it gives you a muted colour portrait of where you are, with your character in it. If you're in a trade cart rumbling along, you'll see yourself going along the road.

Yes, it does give your opportunities to do other things while running between towns, but to me it felt somewhat exhilarating just to see myself affecting the market.

    --------------

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed myself in the closed beta. It was quite an entertaining time, and quite unlike other games I've played. Going about questing? Meeh. I'ma beat the shit out of who I feel like beating the shit out of. And on top of that, I'll happily make myself a fortune. 'cause I can.

First impressions are good. I do know that in terms of pve content there isn't too much. Or should I say, not really catering to a harder aspect. I know nothing after the next area, Media. Other than Valencia being the actual desert.

I also know that gear is a thing, but if you can build a fortune, which in this game, you can come by rather easily either by killing things or trading, I don't foresee it being that much of a problem.
