Hey everyone I know there was already a thread started for Elite Dangerous, but I wanted to open a thread up as a direct invite to players to join us if you choose spend the cash on the game. We usually have someone in channel every day I think right now there are about 10 of us (Ernst, Beachy86, Deadly Walrus, Doomforge, Truxaw, Honey Badger, Naceo, Viking, North, Ross Tiger *sorry if I missed anyone) If anyone has any questions about the game feel free to drop into the TeamSpeak channel or PM any of us.

This game is so overwhelming from the controls to grand scale of the 400 billion star systems. Having a supportive community to help you get started is really beneficial. I will point out a few things to those who might be considering the game. In its current Beta form Frontier Development has been very protective of keeping this game an “enjoyable single player experience”. That is not to say there isn’t a vast amount of group dynamics in game and will certainly be more to come. But currently we enjoy each other’s company in TeamSpeak and aid as we carve our own paths throughout the galaxy occasionally banding together for group space exploration or support taking down large ships in the Nav Beacons. Frontier has confirmed many features that are coming to support group play.

Also on that note, any of you who have purchased the game, there are three types of play currently available to players. Single, this type of play is an online economy but you will not see any PVP players. Private Group Play, this style will only shows the PVP players in your group. Open Play, which is full PVP. We currently launch Private Group since the Open play can be pretty buggy at the moment. We launch under “_Ernst_” private group, friend him in game, search for his Private group and request an invite.

Ross Tiger and I both fly or have flown mouse and keyboard. I think Naceo is on his 3D Pro, I’m now on a Saitek x52 Pro along with Doomforge, Ernst and Beachy86 fly with Thrustmaster Hotas Setups. Honey Badger is on a Russian stick similar to CH. Not sure about North and Viking simply wills his computer to respond to his demands. So we have a pretty diverse group that can help you with your set up if needed.

Anyway I could go on. Honestly guys Frontier has made a great game and the content keeps getting better and better. Drop down channels in TeamSpeak and join us for a bit.

You forgot Deadlywalrus is using a CH stick and throttle. I also think he is using the pedals from a racing wheel for his yaw control since the CH doesn't have a twist stick.

The main point is that no matter what control setup you are using you should be able to get it working with E:D. As far as other things go TrackIR works extremely well and from what I've heard oculus seems to cooperate.

If you choose to you can also use voice attack for most of the controls to free up spots on your joystick and not have to be reaching for you KB all the time.

Well actually I am using a full HOTAS setup and TrackIR. The russian stick is kinda sorta it's own kind of stick. Magnetic (Hall) sensors, very precise and smooth. Also has twist, so I don't need pedals. And for a throttle, I use a CH Pro Throttle. Great throttle for space game and for most flight sims. The mini-stick is the bomb when it comes to using thrusters for pure vertical and horizontal control. Between the two controls, I have 56 buttons, regular joystick, mini-joystick, and a rotary. Plenty of buttons, flying is like playing the piano. LOL!

I fear you may be waiting for a good while.

The game's fun and just getting better, lots of different ways to play, lots of ways to customize your ship, and being updated pretty regularly.

I'll still jump on WT pretty regularly to fly with friends but the game has lost its luster. Even with the big patches it's still the same old hat... look they fixed some of the broke planes, but they borked some of the ones I liked, old UFOs were fixed, new UFOs where added.

Isn't that the case in any game?
When they fix one thing, they always manage to fuck up ten.

Do you play a 10 key piano?

As for WT, I'm not walking away from it, but now that I have functioning TrackIR and HOTAS, I'm gonna be playing sims more than real . Because of the visual cues, real has basically become "ClimbThunder". In Sims, energy is still king, but it's more about maintaining speed and using terrain to hide and sneak. I truly see the paint on the other guy's plane in a dogfight in sims vs reals. In reals its about shooting at s red dot with text cues. Might be like that in an F-18, but prolly not true to the WWII experience in a hellcat or bf109. The fact that my effective convergence is 200m in sims vs. 500m in reals speaks volumes. Also the situational awareness challenge of sims is really disorienting and lots'o'fun!

So I guess I'll see you in both. ED is fun b/c it reminds me of Wing Commander, especially WC Privateer. WT is fun because I'm also a WWII aviation buff. I guess I'll be splitting time to scratch both itches.

Do what makes you happy, its not a prison bud. Enjoy it and soon I will too be in sims. I ahve broken a bone in my hand on the heavy bag so twisting around on a joy stick may have to wait a little while.

I'll be sure to stop by and play some reals too. And we do have the little white ball obsession scratch too!
