1.2 update is now live and with it a whole host of new stuff. Most importantly the ability to form parts of up to 4 players! Does anyone play this? Looking for people to fly with. I am currently in a cobra geared toward combat.

Really my only issue with this game now is that the one thing I love doing (combat) does not yield much cash. It will take for god damn ever to afford a python.

With the wings update, I can see more people joining this game. I got the game yesterday to see how it was. Although I have a lot to learn with the flying for dogfighting, it will be easier now that I can join up with other NNG players with the wings system.

I will give the advice to anyone looking to get this game, the NNG players are currently in a system far from the areas that you usually spawn into at the start. You can make it to there after running one local mission for the cash to make the trip.

You have to buy fuel in elite so you must plan out the trip so that you can stop for fuel or take a short detour as much as possible. The default paths that the game makes will not account for a string of star systems where you can not re-fuel.

The most useful item to get before leaving your starting system is the fuel scoop. You can replace the geographical scanners for this as the other equipment is more important. You use the scanners to sell maps but without a more consistent source of fuel you won't get far before having to turn back or just plain running out, causing you to abandon your ship and having to restart from the last station you docked at.

The fuel scoop is great as it allows you to slowly gather fuel off of nearby stars if they are the right type. This will not ensure that you can travel far across the galaxy on it's own though as I once hit a string of star systems where I could not re-fuel and I eventually became stranded and had to start farther back.

But planning is not as hard when you know what to look out for, I only hit 1-2 bad patches and was fine for re-fuelling apart from that.
What you need to remember is what types of star the fuel scoop can be used on. These are classes; A, B, F, G, K, M, O.
Or just remember KGB FOAM. Any other star will not do and you will damage your ship if you try on another type. If you see a bunch of stars that can't re-fill you on your path, look for star systems that are one jump off your path to refill at before continuing back on the path your nav computer plotted.

You cannot get detailed maps for all systems, but if you hover the cursor over one in the galaxy map, it will tell you what classes the stars are within the star system you will travel to. Use this to plan your jumps in advance and you will be fine.

The quicker you sort this out, the sooner we can fly together.

Good advice Iolar, I've been neglecting this game and I think it was because of the lack of companions. Hopefully the wings update will change this as its a really good game :)

If you want to fly with a HUGE group of pve'ers i suggest checking out www.elitepve.com. Been with them, pretty cool group. Made some serious cash trading with these guys and got myself into a Fer-De-Lance and am now full time bounty hunting until I can get enough to trick out a Python (I had enough to get one for trading, but ended up selling it for the FDL to hunt.). 20 more mill to go!

I have been bounty hunting in empire space. Made a few million there. I now have a viper and cobra. I use the cobra as my main ship as it has better jump capabilities, cargo space and I prefer the weapon placements.
I have the viper parked up in the system I like to use bounty hunting as it has been switched over to a pve build with upgraded power plant, distributor, shields, shield banks, reflective hull (great against npcs as they use lasers) and hull reinforcements.
I made 1 million (in empire space alone, another 350-400k in alliance/fed) in one session bounty hunting in one of my hunting spots and I didn't even take any hull damage I think I was just bored after staying there so long. I was only getting cobras, vipers and the occasional python. Couldn't get any dropships, clippers or anacondas to speed up my bounty gain.

The viper is handy enough once you beef it up and give it good shields and weapons capacity but I still don't like how you're class 2 weapons are harder to get on target due to their positioning below. This makes finishing off targets more difficult unless they are large and you can stick really close.

Edit: But I am now ranking up in the empire for system permits, currently on a break from elite

Resource extraction sites are the place to hunt. If you dont like whats spawning in, simply leave and come back. I had a Vulture for a while, they blow vipers out of the water. So far I am not too horribly impressed with the FDL. I think the Vultures maneuverability FAR makes up for only having two hard points. However those two points are in great spots and they are C3! The FDL has insane shields for its size and the C4 mount rips large ships to bits. Too bad it flies like a brick unless you put top notch thrusters on it.

I kind of want to get a ASP to do some exploring. 33.8ly jump range.
