I just downloaded Heroes of The Storm yesterday and spent a couple of hours playing it.
Fun game no doubt, and feels like its the "light beer" of MOBAS.
Had a brief comversation with Thane about it and my initial feelings were confirmed. So here are my 2 cents about the game:

Very nice graphics, very smooth movement, doesnt feel clunky.
Easy to understand whats going on, easy to learn the ropes. Instead of making players learn, study and min/max the items in the store, they have eliminated them, upgrades come from leveling just like they would in any MMORPG and you get choices between increasing some of your abilities.
Very nicely done I must say, and this is what really separates the game from other "more in-depth" MOBAS - its simplicity.
I personally feel like if I had to choose between this game and Smite, I would probably go with Smite because it offers a lot more flexibility. Many more ways to customize your character and ways to counterbuild when needed.
HOS focuses more on gameplay than teleporting back to your base to buy more items. I love that idea. I have spent about 10 minutes without getting killed and during that time I was able to actually play the game as oppose to teleporting to base and than running back to my lane.

Best part about the game is its queue. I loved the idea of being able to queue with a hero that you want to play as oppose to joining the game and fighting over who gets to play which lane and which hero.
Havent ran into any "LoL attitude" type of players either, just yet I suppose. I'm sure that it will change once I get out of noobie bracket.

Other than that, its a fun game, but not the kind people would stick to for a long time and paying $10 to buy a hero is way too much IMO but since all of them can be unlocked via ingame earned currency, I think I'd stick to that for the time being :)

A couple friends and I have been playing it pretty much daily since the launch and enjoying it quite a lot. This is the first MOBA I've played, so i don't have any other games to compare it too, but from what I've heard i don't think i would care for several aspects of other games (farming lanes for 15-20 min before the fighting starts, kill stealing, etc).

Blizzard has always done a good job of taking a game type and stripping it down to only the "fun" parts. If you were a PvP person in WoW it kinda scratches that itch.

I agree that the prices for each hero is too damn high. While you can buy all the toons with in game currency it takes quite a long time and after you reach lvl 40 the gold you earn slows down. Blizzard wants your money.

If you wanna give it a go, come visit the few of us in TS.

I loved PVP in WOW, but I just got tired of WOW itself, considering the years spent playing that game.

The whole Killstealing thing is very annoying, I totally agree with you, and I get raged at a lot when I "Kill Secure" in Smite. I love the way Blizzard has fixed that problem, as well as the queue and laning thing. Awesome job TBH.

The 15-20 min farming was very well fixed in Smite by adding a timer to exp camps and weather you like it or not, you're kind of forced to fight unless you're ok with giving it up and letting the enemy get that exp, which will backfire at you.

It seems like the gold generation in HotS is very slow but since they do sell boosters, which I'm sure help a lot. I'm sure that they did the math and IMO you'd have to play for few months while paying $10 per month for a booster and be able to unlock all the heroes.
Blizzard is far from stupid and yes, they do want your money. I just wish they had an "Ultimate God Pack" like they do in Smite, where you can just pay one price which will give you all the current Gods, we as well as all the future ones. I wouldnt mind paying $50-60 and have access to all.
In the end, game like this is not about the grind but more about the skill and PVP.

a "ultimate pack" would be awesome... i don't see them doing it but i'd drop the cash on it if they did. I bought the nexus bundle back in the beta, 7 heroes for $39. I don't know if it has the same heroes that it did when i bought it but at the time i thought it was worth it.

I will probably end up buying whatever the pack they got with most heroes just so I can start doing ranked games by the time I reach lvl30.
So far, judging by the feedback on their forums, HotS Hell ELO is a real hell which is filled with clueless players, people going afk in the middle of the game or just plain disconnects. Even last night in 2 out of 3 games that I've played 3-4 people have disconnected and couple of them have been trying to reconnect with no luck. So yeah... but it is the nature of all these games so we gotta take the good with the bad.

MOBAS bring out the best in people :)
