I have looked into some of the stuff covered in that video. It turns out that elite dangerous: horizons is a paid expansion pack (I don't believe it's standalone though).
So you need to purchase it in order to get the planet-side gameplay anyway as well as some of the new ships. Owners of elite dangerous get a limited offer £10 discount when ordering the expansion from their website.
Their website says that certain kickstarter beta backers will get the viper mk4 for free.
If you purchase the horizons expansion, it looks like you will get a cobra mk4 for free. The cobra mk4 will not be purchasable by people who do not own the horizons expansion and elite dangerous.

It looks like owners of elite dangerous and horizons will still be playing in the same universe but horizons owners will have access to certain ships and possibly other things.
I can't see if multi-crew is coming to elite dangerous or horizons. If it is horizons, then people need to purchase the expansion to play it.

Edit: This rock, paper, shotgun article seems to imply that multi-crew is horizons specific and it mightn't even launch soon as the first horizons update is Holidays 2015 for planet-side.

The idea of flying a spaceship together with your friends does sound really cool, especially if they get to do stuff flying you're piloting.

Cost of elite dangerous: horizons expansion for existing elite dangerous owners is £29.99 / $44.99 / €37.49. That's a 25% discount.

    For people who don't own elite dangerous yet, you can buy the base game for £29.99 / $44.99 / €37.49 and then go sign-in and pre-order horizons for an additional £29.99 / $44.99 / €37.49, so in total it's £59.98 / $89.98 / €74.98.

You don't get the discount if you buy the two together so it would then cost £69.98 / $104.98 / €87.48, if you buy them both at once.

Nce! X52 is a good stick. Grats dude!

Now tht you have the proper equipment, you should check out DCS! :)
The free plane that you get with it is really good and a lot of fun to fly.
