They were going to buy me a new laptop for when i work from home. I told my boss i'd rather have a desktop, and this came out cheaper, so it was an easy sell.

No this was years back. Don't remember the series.

Hopefully they've come a long way and got that stuff all quality controlled now.

Lucky mofo. I'm stuck with a dell engineering laptop from work that weighs about 8000 pounds.

Damn, I wonder if I can convince mine to get me one. "What do you need it for?" Protein modelling, "budget?" lots, please.

Shit like that was cheaper? Cheaper than what, a supercomputer?
You'll have to learn me how to get this done...

Geneau if you look at any PC built for software other than gaming the requirements are actually quite high, like people using modern versions of CAD can easily max out 8 odd gigs of ram, same goes for other softwares, like everytime I build a protein my computer gets the shakes trying to fold it.

All that power but no soundcard? Dedicated soundcard vs onboard sound, no contest imo and so worth the extra couple a bucks. The new soundblaster z series is pretty sweet too.

Agreed. Dedicated sound is the only way to go. It's like night and day.
