Wouldn't be the first time. They did the same thing with Watchdogs.

Watchdogs was a terrible port. With the division, they are claiming that it was just restricted how much the PC dev team could do. They couldn't do nicer looking effects or textures/models I imagine to make use of better processing power. Which mightn't necessarily bump up the recommended specs all that significantly depending on how good the devs do of implementation.

They learned their lesson of cutting bits out of the game to try and decrease the quality in watchdogs. So they just built it up less ambitiously this time is what they claim.

So it's not calling the game bad, it's just saying that it is not being all that it could be. If the game is great, then no problem if it's not excellent. You still have a great game. Not totally evil business practice, just slightly irritating.

Well, a good thing about not pushing pc's to the limits is that it lowers development time.

Well if this decision was part of what ever restart they had to do for the project during development then it wouldn't have really shortened the development time. The rumors were that the team working on the game were making it before the xbone and ps4 dev kits were released. And then when they released how underwhelming the hardware was they had to completely re-imagine the game.

They were already 1-2 years in at that point. I think Ubisoft claimed it was re-considered for "artistic reasons". It saves face for having to reduce the project vision for reducing the performance gap between PC and consoles.

Regardless, it still looks great. I'm not going to fault them for holding back just a bit. They even give graphics settings options on the consoles so they can turn off stuff to raise framerate! What other game does that?

It's pretty interesting alright. I wonder if the team was able to do that as a compromise to build a better PC version.
Well I'll see firsthand what the game is like next weekend. I hadn't been particularly interested before but that was because I was unsure of the game concept and what it focused on. I will see if the combat system is one that I like as that's usually a big part of a game experience for me. I have my own taste, so what's good for others mightn't be for me.

The Beta goes Live about 4am Friday 19th eastern time. So you should have you preload done for tonight to get the most time.

I should finish my preload soon. My ISP raised the daily download cap before throttling some time from 8GB to 10 GB which will make big downloads somewhat easier. Would've knocked a day off this anyway.
