While I don't think we ever spoke or played together, I would like to thank you for building this community and for putting all the time, effort and money necessary to keep it going. I hope your new path in life takes you to great places, and from the sound of it, it will.

Moving forward, I have no doubts that we can come together to ensure this community stays intact and perhaps even grows and improves in the future. I, personally, like this idea:

I'm not familiar with the specifics of this, but I would think it or something similar would work well. Surely it wouldn't be too bad for a few of us to commit to small monthly donations to keep the site and TS functional. I'm a pretty broke guy overall with the new mortgage and car payments but I'm sure swinging an extra $10-15 or so a month wouldn't be a big deal at all. A few people commit to that and we stay in business. Count me in whenever we figure out the details.

It is true that if they were both hosted on the same box they would both go down if the box went down. It's all tradeoffs. High availability vs cost.

I went ahead and ordered the hosting server I was looking at for a 3 month term, which further gave me a discount, so I think I'm into it for $14. I'm going to evaluate it for performance and suitability. I think we may have a free option for the web hosting, so even if we don't use it for that we should certainly be able to use it for the teamspeak. Specs are dual core xeon @ 2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 60GB RAID 10 SAN storage (mix of SSD/mechanical drives), with a 1gbps uplink and a 6TB/mo bandwidth cap.

The only thing I am even slightly worried about is the RAM for the website. Teamspeak uses almost no ram (250 user server can run in about 256K of RAM), but MySQL can be a pig if not tuned right, still I think 1.5GB should be good enough.

Cool, if anything changed in status of your administration or the server please keep us informed. We can make a "server status" sub forum if you would like.

And please don't hesitate to tell anyone of us if you change your mind or you need more people to step up and help fund it. I hope we can keep this a cooperative as much as possible now. No one should have to front the entire cost, ghost was awesome enough to do it for so long but now that's changed. We should have a good old fashioned meeting to go over some things, someone figure out what needs to be talked about :D

Anybody want to be NNG's Treasurer? i'd prefer if someone else handled the monies and donations and stuff.

And is anyone else wanting to do the tech stuff or have any better ideas? It's kinda what I do and I don't want to step on toes. Basically what I'm asking is are people cool with me doing it?

I have a couple of ideas on how to do this, the treasurer is a good idea. For a true co-op, we need many brave souls to step up.

Maybe set up an account where a few trust worthy people have access to. Like the new site admin (pretty much Ice at this point), treasurer and main admin/mod? Then we can just point whatever donation thing we make at it and draw all operating funds off said account. Or is this too complicated?
