I recently came across something in War Thunder I simply didn't know you could do even after playing for 6 months, and I thought it only fair to post it on here in case anyone else just didn't know they didn't know it. But thought I'd start a thread that might turn into somewhere people can post all sort of things like this....it might not work....there may be nothing else that people don't know about War Thunder.....but we'll see.

    My contribution:

Until very recently I didn't know that in an Arcade game, if you land on an airfield, wait until your fully repaired and your plane is reset, then hold J to get out your plane, you can switch plane! Let me elaborate on that, you get sent back to the plane selection menu, with the plane you just got out of still available, so you can also use this to simply change the loadout on your plane. Another sneaky point to note is that it respawns you at the fighter spawn point, so this may be handy to get the drop on someone who is about to swoop down and blow you off the runway...

I will also be testing this soon in realistic to see if you can change your loadout, as I don't expect you will be able to switch plane.

I didn't know abut re-picking planes in AB.
In Reaistic / Historical, its like Highlander said, you can hit J and add bombs or change your weapon loadout. ex. Stealth ammo, to Ground Targets.

Switching your loadout in RB and SB goes a long way. For example, I start the battle with light loadout so I can outperform the enemy, than when I RTB, the match will be almost over and than I will have choices between lets say additional gun pods, bombs or rockets. This way I can take advantage of either groundpounding or taking out remaining enemy bombers.

The whole thing about switching the planes in AB and starting up in the air is a great find. I mean AWESOME!
It will save you so much time.

Here is a quick tip (comes from experience), don't rush when you land and actually wait until your plane is fully repaired and rearmed. Don't press your J button until you see that black screen or you will lose your plane :)

If you start in the air in RB in a fighter, this won't work. You'll be sent to the spectator screen.

Yeah, you must be on the ground in both modes and it must be right after your plane resets, before you start moving. I haven't tested if this works right at the beginning of a RB if you start on the ground, but as Glissen said, don't jump out your plane in mid-air :)

It will work right from the start before takeoff. Have had to return to select screen to add fuel after an "oops" start.

It's dependent on the plane and the map.
If you land a float plane on a runway, you will always respawn in the air. If you land a bomber to reload on a runway, you have to take off. If you land a bomber on a carrier, you'll respawn in the air. If you land a ki-61 on the island in a certain map, it will respawn in the air. It's a little odd how they decide what does what, but after a time or two of doing it, you just get used to it.
