So apparently the Zepher does do more damage over time (DPS if you will). You just have to land almost all the shots. It seems to work a little better vs infantry to.

    Still <3 the dalton.

It is much more effective against groups of inf. 3 or 4 carpet bombing a region on 1 run is going to have massive effectiveness.

The reason a lot of people prefer Dalton/recommend it is because the Dalton plays a more balanced role, more effectively. Zephyr does deal much more DPS and it's purpose IS to kill infantry much more effectively. However, it's damage to armored vehicles and turrets is sub-par, even with it's rate of fire, to a PROPERLY aimmed Dalton shot. This also accounts for the gunner knowing the weakspots on a vehicle. 1 Dalton shot hitting the "sweet spot" will do much more damage than a Zephyr load, even if you by some miracle got all 6 shots perfectly on their weak spot.

Dalton - Anti-Armor/Balanced Kill anything you want with only a few shots.
Zephyr - Infantry Melter, Not so great against armor.

All in all, Zephyr I personally find is more fun to use, because who doesn't want more rate of fire and moar bulletz. Dalton surely is however the most powerful cannon in the game to this point.

Also when shooting, you have to treat the Dalton like a Sniper Rifle. The blast radius is terrible. You can't even kill infantry with the AoE damage. However, you try to find the weak points on a Tank, and suddenly you take it down in just 2 shots.. Also able to kill Infantry in one shell, if you land it on their head. The Zephyr is easier to use as it doesn't require as much accuracy, and it's AoE damage is much, much higher.

And for those who don't know, every vehicle takes more damage when you shoot in in the back.
