    Hi everyone,

You may or may not know that our forums run on the Xenforo Forum software. It has served us very well and given us features I'd never dreamed of on a forum. But you also may not know that Xenforo and its developers were/are involved in a legal battle over the code they used to build Xenforo. The lawsuit is with Internet Brands, owner of vBulletin and it's getting pretty ugly.

As a result of the lawsuit, Xenforo hasn't been updating their software. This includes:
    • Security updates
    • Feature updates
    • Bug Fixes
    • Patches
This is a big risk to us and the functionality and safety of our site. It also doesn't appear that the lawsuit will be going in Xenforo's favor. Even if it does, the developers have chosen to ignore their community of customers which has pissed a lot of people off. It doesn't look good...
So basically this puts us in the market for another forum suite.
I'm looking at phpbb and even, yes, vBulletin but haven't decided on anything yet. The most important thing to me will be migrating all of the posts, content, sections, permissions and everything we have setup now over to the new forum. If that is even possible.
I also want to experiment with bringing a more feature and information rich homepage back into the mix again. Giving us more of a website feel and less of a portal feel.
So I'll be doing some investigating and searching to determine where we go from here. Any suggestions on forum software or features are welcome. e.g., I know how we love the chat module so I'd hate to see that go.
Ok that's all for now. Talk to yall later!
    G.

Thanks for being proactive on finding a replacement piece of software for the benefit of the community at large. While I can't offer any suggestions around what software might be suitable I can throw my hat into the ring for any beta testing you need done down the road.

    Cheers!

Minimalist and elegant, though deeply insightful.

It pleases me that I could incite such riotous displays of shittiness.
