Definitely try the malasada, they are delicious. There is a place called Zippy's that is kind of like Denny's here in the states, but way better, serving Hawaiian staples.
Steer clear of the lolo B-52 cockroaches and don't order a 'mahu surprise' and you should be fine.

That'd be Loco Moco. When done right (IMO) is very good and I don't know why you'd say don't eat more than one in a sitting. It's not like it's going to stop you up or give you the shits by overindulging.

I like mine with less rice and more egg, sunny side up with lots of caramelized onions. Mmmm Ono.

There is a Denny's in Waikiki but Zippy's is everywhere. The one in Kaneohe is the best in my opinion. That is also coincidentally my hometown.

 

Been going to Hawaii since *cough* '78. Last time I was there, in Maui, I got blood poisoning which put me near death in hospital for 11 days. I picked up MRSA in the hospial there which stuck with me to this day although its in remission. Not fun. I lost count of how many times I've nearly drowned in the surf there. The worst time was in 17' shore break in Wiamea Bay. My father broke his neck at Sandy Beach. I nearly drowned my younger brother another time at Wiamea Bay. He was being a whinny little fuck and I didn't tell him to "look behind you" until it was well too late > I had to fish his near lifeless body out of the wash. We got a great picture of him balling with sand stuffed in every orifice right after. Another time I fell through the top of a volcano pipe and nearly cut my leg off. Thankfully no lava inside that day. At the same volcano on the big island we were in the crater and there was a true bottomless pit with sulfurous gases pouring out. I strattled it with both legs and called my brother over to see down the hole. No I didn't drop him in, thought about it though while dangling him. Mom wasn't too happy.

I think I'll stick to the Boogey boarding wall and spectacular hookers of Waikiki. The food is up there too: Burgers in Paradise, Chuck's Steakhouse, The Moose, the Denny's has changed to some loud sports bar and DUKES!!!.
