I was asked several questions in TS today about the overlay. Upon finishing my answers people wanted me to repeat what I had just explained because, they had either missed it, or they just entered TS. So I've decided to make a thread explaining the ins and outs of the Overlay.

First, To enable the overlay you need to open the main TS window:

Go to settings --> Plugins and you will note a series of boxes on the left side of the window that will open.
One box should say TS 3 Overlay... ( or something of the sort )
Check that box and proceed to click the Settings button at the bottom of that window.

In order for the TS overlay to work In game you have to first bind a key to open the in game interface:

    Select the Input tab
Go to the Activation Key line, and click the "Set Hotkey" button.
Press any button of your choosing, I personally chose " / " on the Number pad.
    Don't forget to press apply!
Close both windows and make sure the TS 3 Overlay box (from above) is checked.
Press the Reload All button and then close that window
YOU MIGHT HAVE TO RESTART THE TS 3 CLIENT. It varies from situation to situation.

(NOTE: this will NOT interfere with the steam overlay if you run a game though steam. Also Planetside 2 will NOT regard this as malicious, or illegal-to-be-run-in-the-background software. You won't get banned or suspended for running the TS 3 overlay.)

Okay, I have the Overlay turned on, Now what?:

When you First start a game, Planetside 2 for instance, you will note a box filled with the names of the people in your channel on the side of your screen.
You can edit the location of the box as well as the notification area if you press the hot key to open your overlay interface.
You just click and drag, like any other window, and move it to a different location on your screen, that suits you.

You can edit what is shown in the window, The entire TS Server, Just your channel, or just who is talking:

To View this, open your overlay interface again, and right click on the move bar of the window, up at the top.
    You will see 2 options:
    Display >
    About
    Select Display.
    You will see 3 things:
    Minimized
    Normal
    Full
Minimized will only show who is CURRENTLY SPEAKING!!!
Normal will show everyone in your channel.
Full will show you the entire Server.

What else can I edit in the overlay?:

If you want to change the font, the font color, or the font size:
Go to the main TS 3 Window.
    Select Settings --> Plugins
Select TS 3 Overlay.... (DO NOT un-check. Just select it)
Click the settings button at the bottom.
    Go to the Colors Tab.
    Change what you will.
    Apply and close out.

This is all I know about the Overlay. If any one has any comments or questions please feel free to leave them and I will respond accordingly.

    Happy Gaming!!

I get this in TeamSpeak 3 plugin description section: Plugin failed to load: API version is not compatible.

Have you found a way to change the location of the box other that the upper left hand corner?

I absolutely love the overlay. Unfortunately it's very finicky. When it works it's such a life saver!

Use the hotkey that you set up the overlay with (the bind key in the second paragraph) and you should be able to move the box around, resize it, make it more horizontal or vertical, make it do a barrel roll (okay, maybe not the last one...)

On another note, I've sent in a few "bug reports" to the main TS3 forums, but whoever moderates it isn't that helpful and keeps marking everything as "resolved" or merging my "The overlay only works once" threads with any other threads that even remotely reference PS2 (and the issues are completely different). Anyway, the basic problem is that I can start up PS2 and TS3 just fine, and the overlay works wonderfully. If I close the program, come back in an hour and load it up again, the overlay will not work. I can still hear everyone and speak and toggle Command, but the overlay will not show up. Pressing the hotkey used to set it up does nothing, either.

The only thing that I can do is to restart my computer, then it will again work the first time, but not any subsequent times. The official "solution" to the problem is restarting the computer. As far as I can tell, everyone that's experiencing this problem has completely different PC specs and nothing in common, as it would relate to the overlay not working.

Has anyone else experienced this, and has found a solution other than restarting the PC every time I log on to PS2 and TS3?

T3s overlay has a know issue with Steam, I play Black Ops II and upon the most recent update it would log me out of steam when I ran the overlay. I have not had an issue with the overlay off.

OK I see said the blind man, you can also adjust the axis keys for positioning on startup. x=50, y=50 upper left corner...etc.

    Here are your problems:

    1. It's CoD, it sucks donkey nuts.
    2. Some games do not have support for the overlay as the game's anti-cheat system may pick it us as a hack of some sort.

Actually, No. I have checked numerous times if TS overlay conflicts with Steam's overlay. (used to think that is why my TS overlay never worked during PlanetSide 2, as I have it through Steam) I have found that it DOES NOT conflict. The conflict occurs between TS, Steam, and RivaTunerStatistics, or the Overlay used by 90% of all hardware monitoring software (i.e. Afterburner, Precision X, etc.). I just stopped monitering my computer while gaming and everything has worked fine since.

There is no conflict that stops the Steam overlay and the TeamSpeak overlay from working as mine works, always, on a daily basis.

However though, sometimes it hiccups and the TS overlay doesn't show and you need to just go the the plugins menu in the TS Client and reload the plugins. Once reloaded though it works fine. Just a rare glitch.

So the TS3 Overlay does it all...

BUT CAN IT SEE WHY KIDS LOVE CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH????

On a serious note, thanks for the information here Phaedo. I had no idea I could change the color of my overlay, as I had it off because I found that yellow-default color is impossible to see on Indar.
