Simply put yes. You got kinetic energy (speed) and potential energy (Altitude). You can trade one for the other with varying degrees of return depending on the performance of the aircraft. Just about everything you do costs energy so managing it is pretty important.
I just want to say thanks for this. Has definetly helped learn what each plane can do and improved my flying. As long as I don't go full stupid and ignore what you have said.
