Right now 11 people are on the wrong continent, it all just feels a bit chaotic. I've seen this a couple of times, I have no idea if those who don't listen/care are members of NNG or randoms.

It might be a good idea to notify newly promoted squad leaders of their new position, I for one usually have no idea when it happened when I've been promoted.

One thing I DO state - firmly, but kindly is:

"We're all moving to <X> - I reserve the right to start removing people from the platoon in a few minutes if people are still hanging around <Y>. If you want to fight there, that's fine, but you'll need a new squad/platoon to do it. This platoon is going to <X>"

True - if/when the platoon leader notices.

If the previous SL simply quit without saying anything, then the next person in line just gets bumped up into the position (usually whoever was #2 in the squad list).

When in doubt as to who's leading, always check if your name is at the top of the list. ;)

As a squad leader I work with the assumption that the platoon leader is leading, unless we receive squad specific orders, given a lack off specific objectives when attacking a sector(?) with hostile outskirt-points, or fall-back/regroup orders which seems important enough to warrant a repetition in the squad chat.

That probably explains it for I have no idea why people would keep promoting me

For the most part this is correct; However squad leader position unlocks certain abilities if you have certed into them. If you haven't certed into them you should let the pltn leader know so they can change you out for some one who does. If you are certed into say squad beacon or objectives then use them!

Personally I consider the squad beacon as a squad support tool so if I have it I will use it, like the ammo pack, but it doesn't seem essential to a leader. Objectives on the other hand have until today often seemed redundant, for example if we overrun a sector(?) or the sector(?) only have one cap point, and I haven't been able to tag generators or outskirt-points as of yet.

It sounds, Hiv, like you're talking about the Squad Objectives certification.

This gives you two controls - the one primarily used is the option to assign a control point as a "target" for your Squad. This will put four arrows around the point (red if we don't own it, green if we do). This provides a 10% XP bonus to your squad (so it's a good idea to tell your squad if you've assigned an objective - and in a base with multiple capture points to explain which one it is).

You can also assign a friendly target to be a defensive objective. I can't confirm it, but I'd assume this would also give an XP bonus. I suspect its use is intended to get people to gather around and defend a Sundy, or a Galaxy or something similar.

For either of these options you target whatever you want to assign in the center of your screen press and hold "Q" and select the option from the bottom of the radial menu that will open up.

This, sadly, can't be assigned to sub-bases, terminals, or other icons that might be seen on your HUD. Only capture points or friendlies.

Squad Beacons are of varied use - they're super-useful in the primary bases (Biolabs, Tech Plants,Amp Stations) and in any long fight at the smaller points.

One major change to the game that would bolster platoon level play is capture exp being shared throughout the entire platoon. This will prevent stupid situations like having 40 members sit at a tech plant secured for over 5 minutes.

Related to that, we need more emphasis on squad level captures. DaPoets comes to mind at doing a good job at splitting the platoon to do multiple things at once.
